The train is the way to go in Italy, the service is frequent and the train are among the most modern in Europe. Most of them are operated by Ferrovie dello Stato (FS). The InterCity (IC) trains make limited stops and are modern and air-conditioned. The Eurostar Italia (ES) trains are also very fast and comfortable. Actually, only the regional trains are a bit slow and old-fashioned, but they have their own charms.
